Bellagio

Las Vegas, NV

(702) 693 7111 casino or (702) 693 7290 poker room;  3600 Las Vegas Boulevard South 89109

Date of last visit:    5 May 2007

Overall rating:        You Rock!

Comps rating:        You Could Suck Worse.

Description of room:

Big room, big games, big action ... but be prepared to wait a while for a seat (sometimes more than an hour).  The chairs are comfortable, the dealers are friendly, and the bathrooms are close (behind the poker area in the sports book).  Food service is available at the tables.  Rock on with your bad self, Bellagio ... you've created the perfect little rat's nest in the back corner of the casino.  Home, sweet home.

Description of comps:

When I first asked a brush about comps, he responded disinterestedly "You have to see the manager in the office" and then turned away to deal with someone else, as though I should automatically know where "the office" is.  I gave up on getting a comp that visit.  On a different visit several months later, I again asked a brush about the comps and he barked at me (literally barked at me) "You have to see the manager" and turned away.  Talk about unfriendly.  I was left with the impression that they were doing that on purpose to try to discourage guests from asking for comps.  Considering that I've easily played over a hundred hours in that room and never gotten a comp, I finally ventured on my own to find "the office" and discovered that the manager can be found in an office behind the cage ... just walk right on back.  When I asked the manager for a comp, she gave me no grief, but that may be because I had interrupted her while she was on the phone and she just wanted to get rid of me.  We'll see when I go back again and ask for a comp whether the manager is as unfriendly about it as the brushes.  Anyway, my advice is just go straight to the back office and ask for a comp ... don't ask anyone for directions--they might bark at you, too.

The comp itself is for $15.  Not bad, but considering everything in the hotel is already extraordinarily overpriced ... it'll pay for a full meal at the snack shop, but you'll be laying out some of your own cash if you go to the buffet or cafe.  I chose cheap ... the snack shop.

Games offered:

The lowest limit is a 4-8 game.  I've seen it in Hold'em and in Omaha Hi-Lo.  Lowest no limit game is 2-5 Hold'em.  The stakes rise from there and go as high as you like.  I haven't seen a seven card stud game offered below 20-40 and I haven't seen a medium or low limit mixed game there.  But if you like to play 100-200 ... yeah, I can afford that.

Poker Room Rate:

Something absolutely ridiculous like "you must play 15 hours a day and sell your soul to the devil, and only then will we discount your room from $5000 a night to $4999 a night".  Guess who's never stayed at the Bellagio.  No, seriously, you have to play for 6 hours a day and they'll discount you to $149 Sunday-Thursday and $219 Friday & Saturday.  Um, PokerMouse knows cheaper places to stay J

Safety:

No problems here ... love the Bellagio garage.  In fact, I refuse to use the valet here because it takes upwards of an hour to retrieve your car.  Bellagio is a completely safe environment.

Additional Information and Links:

The atrium area just past the lobby of the Bellagio is a showcase of objects designed in flowers that changes seasonally.  Here is a link to images from the Spring 2007 display.

And, of course, the Bellagio has one of my two favorite spots in Vegas (bearing in mind that I haven't yet been able to con anyone into taking me to the Chocolate Swan at Mandalay Bay, so that may turn out to be another favorite spot).

and you can see the chocolate flowing down the right-hand wall:  close up of the chocolate flow:

And I saw someone buying chocolate with a poker comp (even though my comp didn't list that as an option).  I must check into that, 'cause if I can use my comps for chocolate ... I may never leave the Bellagio.
